  • What is mica?

    Mica is a rock-forming mineral in the earth's crust and is a generic term for a group of minerals. The mica group of minerals is an aluminosilicate ore with a complex chemical composition. In addition to silicon, aluminium and oxygen, the main elements include potassium, sodium, magnesium, iron and lithium. Besides, natural mica group minerals are more commonly known for their isomorphism. Therefore, mica contains other minor elements such as manganese, titanium, gallium, barium and sulphur.


  • What kinds of mica are there?

    Depending on the type and content of mica elements, the mica group can be divided into three subgroups: Muscovite mica, biotite mica and lepidolite.


  • Is the mechanical strength of mica high?

    Mica has excellent mechanical properties. Mica has a Mohs hardness of 2-3. Mica flakes have a certain degree of elasticity and flexural properties. Mica has good tensile, compressive and shear strength.


  • Is mica insulating?

    Mica has very excellent insulating properties and is a typical insulating material. The volume resistivity of mica is extremely high, especially in the direction perpendicular to the perfect cleavage surface of the mica. Thanks to its layer structure, mica has a very high surface resistance. Compared to other insulating materials, mica has a very small dielectric dissipation factor and low dielectric loss.


  • What are the thermal properties of mica?

    Mica is imcombustible and has very excellent heat resistance, with a maximum temperature resistance of 1000°C. It has a low thermal conductivity and excellent thermal insulation properties, making it a superior fireproof material.


  • What are the processing properties of mica?

    Mica is a two-dimensional layer structure with a perfect cleavage surface, making it easy to process into two-dimensional planar composites (such as mica plates). But it is difficult to process in other directions. We have prepared a series of mica fireproof safety parts with complex 3D structures by means of special formulations and processing techniques, which have improved the processing performance of mica plates.


  • Do mica plates smoke when heated? Is there an odour?

    When mica plates are subjected to high temperatures, they will produce smoke and a relatively light smell of glue for a short period of time. This is because the cured glue in the finished mica plates contains a small amount of organic components, which will decompose at high temperatures in a very short time. The odour produced by the decomposition is non-toxic. So don't worry!
